The idea behind it is that you now have more power so you can get a bigger spark that will jump a bigger gap. Open them up....1980 GS1000G - Sold

Suggestions as to "how far" ??? I just set them to .035" because I was too impatient for an answer. ;-)
and... another question. When doing "plug readings"... how do you guys clean them between adjustments? Let the engine take care of it, brake-clean and small brush, something better?1980 GS1000G - The Beast - GOING... GOING... yup, it's gone. I'm bikeless !!! GAaaahh !!!

I believe I set mine to the upper tolerance of stock (remembering that they will open up a bit over time.
I've not found it that critical.

Further down in the article mentioned above.:
Spark Plugs
Racing motors usually require a heat range one colder than stock. We recommend NGK plugs. For a Suzuki GS1100-1150 use a D9EA. For a Kawasaki KZ 900-1000 use a B9ES. With a Dyna-S ignition and aftermarket coils run a gap of .028. If your vehicle has a MSD box or Dyna 4000 ignition run a plug gap of .018 - .020.
Spent the day at the Englishtown Swap Meet.... will try to fire up the Beast tomorrow. ( No pre-1984 GS at the swap meet. Not one. a few GS700 parts bikes, didn't look close )
edit: the quote above may not apply to my bike, and not sure if cams and pods qualify as "racing motor".Last edited by exdirtbiker; 04-28-2017, 10:24 PM.1980 GS1000G - The Beast - GOING... GOING... yup, it's gone. I'm bikeless !!! GAaaahh !!!
