Starter button wires
I just put some new bars on my gs650g today and now the bike won't start. I went through and made sure I didn't just forget something stupid. I have a simple probe to see if a wire is hot or not. I'm thinking a wire got pulled and isn't seeing power. Inside of the starter button and kill switch there is a yellow/green wire that isn't seeing power that is connected to the starter button. Does anyone know if this should be seeing power or if it only would under certain circumstances such as the clutch being pulled in?Last edited by Guest; 05-03-2017, 08:26 PM.Tags: None

Yellow/Green is starter disconnect switch (bottom left of diagram): http://members.dslextreme.com/users/...650wiring.html
I'm not familiar with the 650's but it's either clutch/sidestand whatever safety switch your bike has1980/1981 GS450 - GS500 Cylinder + Piston Swap - "De-L'ed", custom seat, CB350 bits, 18" rear, etc.

There should be two orange/white wires and one yellow/green wire in that general area. One of the orange/white wires might have a red band around it near the 3-pin connector. That should be HOT when the key is ON. The other orange/white wire is switched by the 'kill' switch, it sends power to the ignitor and the coils, there is also a short wire to the starter button. The yellow/green wire goes from the starter button to the clutch "safety" switch on the left side of the handlebars. From there, it goes to the starter solenoid. Many of us bypass that switch by switching connectors in the headlight bucket, which sends power straight from the starter button to the solenoid.
In your picture, that top orange/white wire should be HOT when the key is ON and the 'kill' switch is ON. When that is on, the yellow/green wire will be HOT when the starter button is pushed.
By the way, your "simple probe", which is probably a test light, is the PERFECT tool for this job. No need to decipher numbers, just see if the light comes on.

Clutch swtich would be after the starter button.
Circuit is:
-org/wht wire from fuse to kill swtich.
-another org/wht wire from kill swtich to the starter button and to other things.
- grn/yel wire from startert button to clutch swtich (called starter disconnect on schematic).
- another grn/yel wire from clutch swtich to starter solenoid.
- starter solenoid grounde by its mounting to battery boat, and ground blk/wht wire.
So, yah should have power there on the starter button when kill swtich is okay.
