    83 GS1100E Wiring

    Hello All,

I picked up this 1983 GS1100E this weekend and am working on going through the wiring on it. WHat I got was completely taken apart, so I made some educated guesses and fixed a few things that I figured were probably bad (Melted Wires). Oh and did I mention the bike doesn't run?....lol

So I was wondering if someone might have a pic of their left side wiring for the area around the Starter relay? I do think the one on this bike is bad, even though PO said he bench tested it (Whatever that means). Here are a few pics of what it looked like when I brought it home....

Nothing connected here for starter relay

Ground wires? any idea what these plug in to?

is this a ground off the igniter?

The home improvement twist connectors are great!

Starter relay is plugged in to the yellow/green wire now.

Coming off the battery: is this supposed to be hooked up someehre for the batter light on the instrument cluster?

    but wait, there's more....lol

behind the headlight these are just twisted together, I'm sure they shouldn't be this way, but should they at-least be connected?

Grey or white wire...could this go to the one that is twisted on to the Orange/Green wire?

Orange/Green wire, I'm thinking it goes to the Orange/Green one above.

a black and a grey wire just hanging out....traced them back and they go to the front brake lever.....hmmmmmm

White/Red and Green/White connected. I think this is actually correct according to the wiring diagram that I have been studying..

Ground wire? coming off the starter relay??

any help you guys can provide is greatly appreciated. I feel like the bike isnt far off from where it needs to be for at least starting under its own power, but am looking for validation and maybe some comparison pics to confirm.

    Thanks!

I just tried connecting a new ground from the starter solenoid (last pic) to a good ground on the bike, and the starter button is now working. I'll have to make some thing a bit more permanent tomorrow.
