What's this blue wire for?

Anyone have an idea what this blue wire is for, it is located in between the sets of wires for the ignition coils?

Neutral light wire I reckon.

Yes, you could be right, I guess it should then come out at the bunch of wires at the headlight end of the loom, I could be wrong but I could only see a blue/red wire there last time I looked. I'll have a poke around with a multimeter

Yup, IIRC when I had to repair a pinched wire that disabled the Neutral light, it was blue.

The other thing that is strange in the wiring diagram is there is a brown wire that is not connected to anything in the headlamp shell, since this connects with the rear light, it must be for the parking light, strange that the bulb is not being shown, I think there should also be a black/white cable going to the parking bulb and that's also not shown.

All correct answers and guesses, so far.

The blue wire is (probably) for the neutral switch and light. There are three blue wires (with no stripes) that I know of on the bike. One is from a signal generator to the ignitor, so it should not be anywhere near the headlight bucket or the coils. A second one is a lighter blue and goes from the turn signal flasher to the left handlebar switch. The third one is the neutral line, it goes between the light on the dash panel and the switch that is just inboard of the left footpeg. It does run down the main harness between the coils, so is the likely culprit.

The brown wire in the headlight bucket can be used for running lights. Not sure if the German bikes had that feature, but the USA market bikes did.

I couldn't find anything resembling a blue wire in the headlamp bunch of wires, I would have probed them all with my multi-meter, but it decided it was not going to play ball today! There seem to be 3 yellow (with green tracer) wires in the headlight bunch that don't connect with anything one male and 2 females, in the wiring diagram there is a 'starter disconnect switch', would this be the side stand cutout switch, I don't have one of those , probably the male should connect with one of the female Y/G connectors, but which one? Then there is this one flat connector with 3 pins on it that has nothing to connect to

I got these nice original indicators of ebay, the only thing is that one pair is a bit longer than the others, you can see them in this picture, the round ones, It seems that some people have long at the front others long at the back, but what is correct

Yes we have running lights (called parking in the UK).
