Handle bar controls. Can I use universal ones?

I need new controls for my new project. Its an 82 gs850. I was wondering if I can use universal controls or if Suzuki did something odd where I have to get factory controls. Like did theyou switch the ground instead of hots or anything like that. Trying to get back into the gs scene but I've forgotten most of what I learned. Thanks.

The turn signal system won't work with a standard universal hand control.

You can get a hand control off ebay too. Several different model GS's used the same switch or similar. It's a little tricky to get inside but doable. Take it apart, clean all the contacts, and then reassemble with silicone grease. You can even switch harnesses between different hand controls of the same design because a couple models are slightly different.

Most items are switched hot, but the horn uses a switch on the ground side.
