Yes. The C has a two pronged connector that goes into the signal relay which is mounted on the electrical panels left top side..which is on the left side of the battery box. The E has a TSCU box which is about the size of a cigarette pack with a 4 and a 6 pin connector and its mounted on the lower back side of the battery box on the right side of the bike. Two totally different animals.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

The difference is because the C model doesnt have self cancelling signals, thus no TSCU.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I've seen fishe errors before for sure.
I think the 1000 C & N share the same part number. 36610-49000 WIRING HARNESS.
However that P/N was superseded by 36610-49001, and that's the one that is supposedly cross compatible with the E model bikes. I have no idea if this is wrong though.
For my first 1000S I converted a 1000GL harness to work. It was a fair bit of work but a fun project in of itself. I'm pretty sure some other harness could be adapted if you don't mind putting in the work and research.Ed

Yeah...my slight color blindness and lack of electrical skills isnt a good combo for me to try and jury rig a harness. Besides I want corrct parts on the bike.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Colour blind Chuck, yes it's a bitch !. I'm red green blind and wires are problematic, unless you have a none colour blind assistant. Before I retired from work I would regularly strip out truck cabs dash etc to repair the cab, sharpies are your best friend to mark where the harness plugs in. Repairing a harness is where the assistant is a must have !. All the best luck with your project, dont think i would have the balls to fire a fuel tank !. Watching with interest.

Chuck I tried a "C" switch on my '78 1000E when I was fooling with my turn signals. Everything on the plug worked except I had to change up a wire to get it to work with the 12v supply. I ended up changing it back because I forgot to turn the turn signal off too many times and went back to the original switch that I use manually since the self cancel doesn't work. I'm sure an "E" harness would work with some small changes but that doesn't really help you much. I also have a '79 harness on a parts bike that has a few more differences.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.
