    On board Ipad charger

Suppose I want to get a tank mount for my iPad. Is my Electrosport/Compufire upgrade able to push an on-board charger?

Not sure what the max draw is but USB is max 0.5A at 5v=2.5watts max out of about 200 watts total

In standard mode, yes. There are certain modes where you can go higher (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Power), but your run-of-the-mill 12V USB Adaptor won't go higher.

At 0.5A your iPad - assuming a newer model - in my experience will charge when not in use, and will hold a charge or charge slowly when in use.

In any case, your R/R won't have any trouble.

Thank you. And what would be the best way to wire in such an accessory?

I have no specific recommendation, it depends where you want to have the connector.

When I added a small voltmeter accessory, I just had a look for an area where I could conveniently splice in a connection, then checked with the circuit diagram which of the wires were fit for the purpose.

Parking light or low beam could be a candidate. If they're switchable in your jurisdiction, you can reduce the load on the battery when starting the bike. (Yeah, yeah, not that it matters much with that tiny accessory )

You want a charger you can turn-off or remove. The easiest access is to tap off the yes wire on the bottom of your ignition switch. Solder a small 18 ga wire to the exposed lug of ignition switch.

note there are handle bar mounted USB ports but unless there is an off switch, it will drain your battery.

i don't recall the name but you can go on amazon and search for the switched unit.
or just buy a cigarette lighter USB you can unplug.

Well yes there are other special mode USB interfaces but I doubt the IPad uses any of them or else it would only work with special up amped USB ports.

Looks like you can just plug this one into the charging port. Simple. I like that.

                What do you think?
