    Question on 3rd Wire from Signal Generator and 2 Wires in Harness - Related?

    Let me start off by saying that I have searched for my answer extensively before asking and perhaps wasting your collective time.

    I have an 83 GS 650 L that I picked up a month or so ago. The engine was on the bike - but that's about it. Assorted bits and parts were in boxes as was the wiring which was in the form of a rat's nest. I acquired a used 82 GS 650 (no reference to model type) harness from ebay and set about marking each wire and harness connect and got thru finding a home for about 98% of the connections. I need help with the last 3 wires, please. My plans for the bike are various upgrades and improvements per the recommendations of this site, but I'd like to get the bike running first in it's stock configuration (as much as possible) before swapping in ignitions, relays, etc.

    So...first question: the green/yellow wire that follows the blue and green wires out of the signal generator - where does that go? No wiring schematics I've seen reference a green/yellow wire - even those that have a third wire coming out of the signal generator.

    Last question: In what I call the "power grouping" of wires on the harness (the clump that has the hook ups for the fuse box, tail lights, R/R, etc) there are two grn/wht (or grn/yellow) wires with female connections on them that have continuity between them (meaning: if I stick a multimeter probe into each end of these two wires, there is continuity between them. I cannot for the life of me seem to find reference to them anywhere. Are they somehow connected to that signal generator wire?

      While I recall there being an odd G/Y wire in that bunch on my 650GD ('83 for those that don't follow the letter codes), I can't recall exactly where it went. According to this wiring diagram, it goes to the ignitor:





      The other two wires might be the clutch safety (starter safety kill), or part of the 3rd leg of the stator output that goes to the handlebar switch, depending in which bundle of wires they are embedded.

        The green/yellow wire running along with signal generator wires goes to oil pressure sender.

        The two wires with the female connectors sound like the ones going to fuel tank sender - they would likely have continuity if the console gauges are hooked up. But mine are black/white and black/yellow

          Thanks for your replies. Tom - yes...I popped off the side cover and indeed that G/Y on the bike itself is from the oil sender - embarrassed that I couldn't get that one myself. Turns out that one of those "twin wires" is the G/Y that takes the signal from the oil switch to the idiot light cluster (I am partially color blind...the wife had to help me on that one). So...I'm left with a G/W at the back of the harness (yes...the wife helped me with that one too) on the harness. Funny thing is, that they BOTH have continuity to the same GY/GW wire on the plug as well as the O/OG wire next to it on the same plug that controls the idiot lights on the tachy. It also has continuity to one leg of the turn signal relay. Is there a problem here?

            SOLVED.
            Thanks for your time and input. What was throwing me off is that I had some gauges plugged in. When I disconnected the gauges, I was able to isolate where the wire was really going. Followed it to the Speedo where I suddenly noticed a Side Stand light that after some research, fit the G/W color description of the wire I was trying to find a home for. It's not on any of the 650L diagrams I've seen, but I found it on a diagram for a bigger GS'. The switch is not on the bike and I'm not sure if I need to source one, but the continuity with the oil pressure wire suddenly makes sense...
