    Accel coils

I picked up some Accel coils in a trade. Thinking about putting them on my 1100ES. Any advantage?

Why? do yours need to be replaced? Personally, I would leave well enough alone. Replace only when needed. But that's just me.

I was just wondering if there was any reason to upgrade. The bike runs fine as is.

If the bike is running fine, great, leave it alone. But you could hang on to the Accel coils as spares, knowing that you will also need to get wires and caps before you can use them.

Back in the dark old days I had an 83 1100e. I dont recall why, but I put a set of those on mine- I think my plug wires were bad. I did notice crisper throttle response and a bit more zip, but likely subjective results.....

They could be a lower resistance (usually Accel are 3ohm) than some of the early bikes with 5ohm coils for point. Less ohms = stronger spark but more wear to points.

Most important is a good 12v supply to the coils...

I would put them on and keep ure std as spares. They give a nice spark and only hassle in 20 odd years was need to replace the leads. I used 8mm lead trimmed down to fit into coils/plug caps. Was told to increase plug gap to 35 thou as well.
