Has any body replaced the ignition wires on the stock coils... don't want to pull the wires out if it's not possible to install new ones... I think it should be possible but I would like to hear that some one has successfully done it...

It's easy. Pull them out and replace with solid core wires. I use accel 8mm yellows. Clean out the holes and make sure the pin in the hole is not damaged.
Make sure you lightly coat the insulated end with a little glue like permatex 97 to seal them. I mark the wire to be sure it goes in deepnenough1981 GS650G , all the bike you need

What about poking a nail or similar between the wall of the the coil tunnel and the wire. Spray some WD-40 in it first. Work the nail in and keep squirting the WD-40 until the nail bottoms out. Then start working the nail sideways. A similar technique is used to remove golf grips without damage. Mineral spirits is used in that instance but WD-40 would be even more slippery.Ed

Update... got all 4 out but not without some difficulty... 2 of them broke off... I tried to get the first one out with a pick... no way so I took a drill bit the same size as the hole and drilled down to the pin... { measure first obviously } then used a small bit that would not hit the pin and drilled to the bottom, as I did this it spun the rest of the wire end right out...
Thanks again for your help...

Sounds sensible. I tried something similar but with a hand drill only I managed to get it off centre & bust out the plastic surround... There are plenty of cheap serviceable parts around for coils if you're not determined to have stock
(Not at the time though... I remember that costing me $120 for a set of Dyna Green's - one of which went faulty 6 months later & was warranty replaced). Good for the next 10k+ miles until I sold it at that point though.1980 GS1000G - Sold

Frank Z. gave me the tip of screwing a bolt into the hole once the wire is out. Yank the bolt out and it cleans the hole of old glue. The stock wire is 7MMMY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.
