Well, the r/r works like a charm.
It charges the battery to the correct specs without so much as a hiccup, produces zero heat & turned out to NOT be the POS that so many respondents claimed it to be.
Electrosport offered EXCELLENT customer service & tech advice, to boot.
So, if your r/r has gone south on you, know that there are options out there other than buying a used SH7775.

Look, the entire motorcycle industry installed shunt R/R's, and most likely still does, and most of these bikes motor along their way for years trouble free. It's mostly the high power stators that burn themselves up when teamed with a shunt R/R. I've mentioned this several times here before but Kawasaki KZ bikes don't burn up their stators nearly as commonly as GS bikes and KZ's have a lower charging system output. It's not a coincidence.
So maybe 82tiburon will get lucky. In my experience if his stator is somewhat weakened that can even work in his favor because there won't be a lot of excess output that gets shunted back. I helped a local GSR member here install a cheap shunt R/R one time and the best we could get out of the system was 13.7 VDC, but that bike got down the road for quite some time that way and there is nothing wrong with that.Ed

"The Shunt R/R's typically will burn up your stator (eventually). I'm a staunch proponent of the SERIES R/ R, but I also had a 1981 GS750EX and after appropriate wiring changes to the charging system, the OEM regulator seemed to last for at least about 5K miles that I put on the bike. So your free R/R will cause your to pull you stator cover and replace the new stator which is about $100. Is it 5K or 10K miles depends on how your ride it."
Ah, it's always GREAT to get such positive feedback.
I hope you're picking up on the sarcasm, because I'm laying it on pretty thick.

Earlier you you claimed to want to be informed. So if there is any truth to that you could read the threads in my signature. (Especially GS Stator). ES has a long history here at the GSR and there is very little you are going to be able to offer in the way of advice (especially when that advice is largely constituted from talking to ES tech support). So finally bear in mind many member will object to what you posted as an open recommendation, myself not the least of the objectors.

If you are so fragile & easily offended by my simply stating what worked for me, don't feel obligated to read what I write or respond to it.
Have a Guiness & chill the f**k out...seriously.

The forum is not your personal blog so don't expect to post anything you care without objection.

Basically, You are out of line. Far.
Learn to voice your disagreement and demonstrating your argument properly, or you won't go much further in life.
A similar position re. series/shunt has already been stated in this thread by other members, in a proper adult way.
Also observe how people respond to your posts compared to how you respond to people.
If you want to have the insulting way instead, I could ridicule you to no end about your battery situation. So don't, and I won't.#1: 1979 GS 550 EC "Red" – Very first Bike / Overhaul thread New here? ☛ Read the Top 10 Newbie mistakes thread

I'm not seeking anyone's approval or recommendations, I simply stated what I did to resolve my problem.
If you guys can deal with that fine, if you can't...well, that's a personal problem you're going to have to reconcile with on your own.

"But you haven't resolved it. All you've done is what every GS owner used to do and fitted a standard reg/rec.

Gee, that's funny --- because I rode my original '80 750E from Florida to my naval deployment at Coronado Bay in California, after ditty-bopping all over Texas saying my goodbyes to friends for three months & NEVER had Problem One with the original charging system.
Yet you're all convinced, without ever having tried one, that the improved Electrosport unit will absolutely fail & take the entire charging system with it in one fell swoop.
Sounds very petty, pompous to a fault & incredibly arrogant (not to mention, stupid) to me.
But that's to be expected from people who refer to themselves as self-proclaimed "mentors" and "sages", I guess.
So I guess every other swinging dick out there without a Series R/R has their GS sidelined, huh?
Tell you what --- you worry about what you do or use on your bikes & stop crapping kittens about me & mine.
Have a nice day.Last edited by Guest; 05-18-2018, 06:12 PM.
