    SH775 question

I understand the SH775 is the Polaris series r/r that knowledgeable folks here are recommending so use on our GSes.
Do I understand properly that is also recommended to use a connector/harness that can get from Truimph dealer, and the reason to use the Triumph connector/harness (rather than Polaris) is that the wires are long enough. Do not recomend the Truimph r/r due to cost. But, anyway, that is not my question.

My sons '08 Truimph 1050 is in need of a r/r.
I know the stator is 3 phase like our GS'es. (although specs are 45 volts at 4000 rpm, not 60vac).
ANd the r/r has the three stator inputs and two + and two - (and no sense line).

So... by some logic..., it would seem that could use the Polaris SH775 directly on the Triumph.
    Any comment?

It should work fine. The series R/R's from Compufire were actually designed for low voltage situations ; that is why it is so efficent. Anyway, that might sound like a red herring, there is nothing actually to worry about. If any R/R will work then a Series will work better.

Triumph moved from a R/R that was much like Suzuki's to an FET-based (still shunt-style) unit. I don't know if it might be an FH012 or an FH020, but it looks a LOT like the SH775 and uses the same connectors. The wiring harness was meant to be able to adapt the new R/R to the old harness on the bike.

When most GSers use the harness, they likely cut off the ends connect to the bike and use their own connectors or solder. Personally, I have kept the Triumph harness intact and used its connectors. Most of my harness around the battery and fuses has been customized a bit, so it was no problem to make up some new connectors that mated up to the Triumph harness.

Oh, the price is another reason to recommend it. Just getting the connectors can easily run $15-20, depending on where you shop, and then you have to do all the work of crimping the terminals on your own wires, hoping you get them all correct. I think the Triumph harness is about $12, and they have already done most of the work for you.

Can you give us a part number? Recently put a SH775 on my bike and was caught out in Bugtussle when it happened so I used plain Jane crimp style connectors from the local hardware store.

i recently purchased a s/h 775 from the USA, genuine item, total £31.50 GBP delivered to my door, (which took just over a week).
I have also just ordered a brand new Triumph 2500676 cable from a Triumph dealer, £23 GBP delivered.
Total cost £54.50 for the whole lot, same price you will pay for a cheap inferior reg/rec here in the UK.
                  Happy with that

I replaced the R&R on my 06 Sprint with a SH-847 and the Triumph wiring harness. It's plug and play aside from a bracket to adapt the larger hole spacing on the R&R. The SH-847 is a 50 amp unit (sh-775 = 30 amp)and this is what the Triumph forum in recommending.

                    Read this thread:

What model bikes came with the SH847? The nice thing about the SH775 is they can be found for less than $40 shipped off ebay most of the time and they can carry more than enough current for a GS charging system.

does anyone know if it is possible to buy the corresponding connectors that go on the other end of the Triumph 2500676 cable? or do you just cut them off and fit your own terminal connectors?

I retained the connectors that plug into the R & R and cut off the other end to connect to my Suzuki GS'es. On the Sprint, the Triumph harness connects on both ends. Easy peasie......

yeah i guessed its plug and play on the Trumpet, lol. just wondering if you can buy the plugs on the other end of the cable so it would save chopping them off and fitting new plugs.
