    Replacement coil

    Hi,
Got the 1979 GS1000S fully back together and started / ran really well first push on the starter - much to my surprise!
However when I rolled her outside a few days later to fire her up again to run and balance carbs / set timing etc. she only ran on 2 cylinders.
Swapped coil wires over and the other two then fire so looks like a dodgy coil.
I have got a spare set of coils from a GSX1100EZ (GS1100E) and wondered if those could be used or are much different?
If not OK, has anyone had any experience of the Hitachi replacement coils I see available on quite a few sources?

    Cheers,
    Andy

Check the resistance of the 1100 coil. Your 1000S has points in the ignition system (unless you have upgraded), and they require coils with slightly more resistance. I believe your coils were specified in the 4-6Ω range, the 1100 calls for coils in the 3-5Ω range.
