I can see the pic, and yes the red arrow you've drawn is indeed the fixed mark you need to align with. You know I'm pretty sure I had a thread covering my Dyna install, let me see if I can dig it out, don't know if I went into this level of detail or not...

Ok, this is my ancient thread: https://www.thegsresources.com/_foru...hlight=igniter

The Dynatek stuff starts at post #188 but I get good tips starting in post #197 by the looks, and I used a multimeter rather than a test light also.

The pic's from that thread were all in Photophucket which is gone for me now, going to take me some time to dig them out if they're needed though as I downloaded them all zipped up and stuck them somewhere...

This is the only pic I can find about setting the static timing in post #202, which isn't all that helpful I'm afraid, and the other one referred to is literally just a photo of the voltage on the multimeter which is 100% useless.

The two videos missing are just showing sparks, so again not much help.

Thanks Pete. I had read your ancient thread but still had questions. I have searched this forum for information but didn’t have any luck. Perhaps my brain doesn’t think like others. I am going to work on it this weekend and should have some good results by next week.

I used the information from the Dyna page and this video along with a static light to install mine. I wish I could remember off hand what I did .. but I dont but perhaps the video will help

I dont have a timing light and adjusted static using the method in the video my bike has been running awesome since I installed it so the gods were good to me. It was one of the simpler things I did on the bike ..

Because the Dyna-S is meant for the GS400-425, the advance mechanism on these models have a 1-4 and a 2-3 marking and can be used on 4 cylinder models. The GS450 only has an "R" and an "L" marking, Right and Left. Only the "Right" side has the "F" mark that the instructions refer to. The advance timing mark on the Dyna-S is 1/2" to the right of the "F" mark on the advance assembly. Larry from Dynatek says to transfer the makings from "R" side to the "Left" side using a caliper to get accurate measurements or I could use an advancer from a GS400.

              I'm learning something new daily.

Ah! Yes the lack of an F mark on one side is now ringing a faint bell... I can't recall how I dealt with that now but I definitely didn't transfer the marking.

You can turn the crank anti-clockwise to find the F 1-4 (F for firing) mark and line it up with the mark on the case.
Where is the full advance mark on the bottom part of the timing unit. For the cylinder two side? Would you have any idea how I would time the L side?

Time one side up - the one for which you have marks - and because the Dyna pickups are fixed at 180 degrees apart, the other side should be correct.
