NGK spark plugs and caps
I have NGK spark plug caps, I bought some new NGK plugs stock ones that are suppose to fit. And they will not work. The little metal tip will not unscrew like the ones I have. So they are too fat for the caps to snap down on. All the numbers match. Anyone else have this happen?[SIGPIC1980 GS1000E

A quick inspection will tell you for sure, next time.
The permanently capped ones are all one peice on the cap, whereas the removeable caps are fairly obviously two parts when you look at them from the top.
It's a common enough mistake when you trust the parts guy to hand you the right ones, and half (or more) of them don't really know the finer nuances of what they're selling. "Computer says it fits, it must be right."
An handy thing though - if you get stuck in the boonies desperately needing new plugs, and all that's available are the solid top type, NGK also sell the plug caps to accomodate them. Failing that, the solid-type top is quite common in the car world, and you might find a set of four which will get you on the road again, new or used.---- Dave
