    GS1000 5 wire stator

I have an unknown year GS1000
    #'s GS1000-101876
I've narrowed it down to '78-'80.

It has a 5 wire stator.
    1 G/W, 2 Y, 2 B/W

All the wiring diagrams I've researched only show a 3 wire with one of each color mentioned above.
Is it safe to assume I only need to use 1 of each wire for direct wire to the R/R?
Why 5 wire? The other 2 have to do with the headlight loop???
I did see in a GS1000 wiring schematic that the G/W wire ventures off into the abyss only to loop around (somewhere up by the right handlebar switches) and head back to the W/R rectifier wire???

For those wondering, I am installing a 1000 in a '77 750 and the OE engine only had a 3 wire stator. From the pictures I took, the wiring had a bunch of weak links and butt splices but appears to be wired OE... This 750 had upgrades, horrible wiring repairs and more done to it LONG before I put my hands on it.

Stator wires, on foot peg in pic below.
    R/R is a 5 wire. SH532C-13

The split wires run to the separate voltage regulator and rectifier, as standard on 78 and 79 models
I don't know what wiring diagram you're looking at, but the one in the factory service manual clearly shows the separate units and associated wiring

If you're going to use a 775 R/R, just run the 3 wires to it and cut off or insulate the extra runs

      Thanks Big T

I am looking at the diagrams on this page

So far I've seen only 3 wire Stators.

Ah ha... I did finally find a diagram that shows how the stator wires split and run out to both regulator and rectifier.

        Thanks.
