    Is this the code?

    Lost keys to the 82 1100GL. Seat latch has a code of 244 so I ordered a key off Ebay and it worked fine..but not in the ignition. ( i have so many bikes its hard to keep track of these details ) Anywhoooo....took out the ignition and found these and since ive never had to find a code off an ignition, I must ask is this the code for the ignition? I am GUESSING yes.

      I say "guessing" as its the only "3 digit" number I can find and it is pretty small at that.

        Only thing I can think of that's a plain 3 digit #

          PM Kiwicanuck. He cuts keys from the codes and maybe he can tell you if it's a known code or in the code range. I'm guessing it is for whatever that's worth.

            Appx. 10 yrs ago, our local locksmith had the blanks & would cut from code. Maybe that's sor'ta common.

              Sandy...I didnt think to check my key code book. Its there. So this must be the ignitions key code.

                Chuck that is the code, need a key(s) for it?

                Also you can then rekey the seat latch to match the new ignition keys.

                It's easier to rekey the seat latch lock, unless you want to get those 3 little roll pins out of the ignition lock, certainly not impossible but can be a challenge.

                  I re-keyed the gas cap on my 1100E to match a new ignition, several years ago.

                  But I never figured out how to get the cylinder out of the seat lock to re-key that.

                  Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

                    I did a "how to" write up a few years back, I'll see if I can find any pictures from that post.

                    Basically there is a flat brass retainer holding in the cylinder plug, the retainer is held in place by the housing having been "swaged" inward.

                    Look on the back of the assembly to find the location of the retainer, insert a flat blade screwdriver to open up the slot and then you should be able to see the brass retainer.

                    Once the retainer is fully exposed you can tap it on a block of wood and the retainer should pop out, it is not spring loaded, just a friction fit.

                    To reassemble reinstall plug and retainer then use a punch to "swage" the material back in place to hold the retainer in and your done.
