    front brakewire

    is this the wire for my front brake to turn on the brake light? im hoping it is, my front brakes been disconnected and has fell off my wheel a few time yanking the line and it came off, how do i reconnect it? im also gonna be putting on newer bars so if i need to trim the wire at all for fitting it back in am i okay to shorten it for a cleaner fit? went from the barbie girl bicycle bars to daytona style bars.

    (its a orange and yellow wire has been corroded bad id say)
    (master cylinder is sitting in paint stripper repainting the whole dash )

    Yes, front brake light switch.
    You can shorten the wires an inch and solder them back on.
    Almost all suzuki from the '70 and '80 have this switch.

      do i just screw it in place or do the wires have to go inside the unit

        Look at the parts fiche on any of the OEM sellers. (parts outlaw, partzilla, etc. ) That will answer your question. You have a lot of small parts inside that cover that you need.

          Here’s a rebuild tutorial found on bikecliffs website. It’s not showing resoldering your broken wires to the board though. You may find more in searching the forum. Tip for using search: advanced, and titles only. Lots of other great stuff on bikecliffs website you’ll likely need throughout your project too. Link in my sig. bookmark it.

            Looking at the state of what I see in the picture I'd be putting a master off a EX650 on there instead... Microswitch that needs two spade connectors.

                i mean it worked before lol, im just trying to get it back working its a model z im not missing anything really have anything that came off already, but yes it looks pretty corroded can i scrub and clean an itll be fine?

                is there any aftermarket brake cylinders that work well instead of buying a used one.

                  I'd guess some of the tiny parts, especially the spring, are not there. you can get a kit to replace your broken stuff, with the tiny spring, new contacts, wires, screws & all, from ebay for roughly $10. Or what he said.

                    OK...Looks like a neat idea for my 1100E.
                    Seems to be two different types on the bay.
                    One with a square resivoir cover, and the newer version is somewhat rounded.
                    Does the type/year matter? Looks like I could get one for $30-40.

                      i concur, that whole mess looks shagged. If you clean and reuse the master you might consider a banjo switch tho, as that switch is perty far gone to mess about with too much.

                        guys i know it looks like crap, its because its sitting in stripping gel and there was layers of paint on it i think its been just sprayed over but not stripped down before, but the bottom side that you are seeing yeah that does look bad, and i wouldnt have known about my wiring looking that bad if it didnt get snagged out.

                        rp do you have a link for a kit to replace all the electric unit?

                        the master cylinder itself works mechanically good, how do i know? well when i was riding when my bike was up the front brake worked well and better than my friends on his 81 virago, not even a week ago, i found out theres no fluid in my resevoir and only in the caliper, how did it work with fluid only in the caliper? i dont know but the brakes stopped good.


                        also im gonna get steel braided brake lines for this and take off the old ones, that banjo on my master cylinder is STUCK so it will be replaced, aswell as the line. what size does my master cylinder and my front brake take they are both stock. ( for the line and banjo to connect)

                          Depends on your mirror setup. Either will work but the newer ones don't have a mirror post on them.

                          I've used a few of them on different bikes over the years. They work fine with the twinpot brakes or the GS stock ones. Same 5/8" master cylinder.

                              Under those two blobs of solder are two wire pins. under that plate are two copper strips, a ball bearing & a spring. You can clean up the contacts underneath, remove that solder, cut your wires back & re-solder. It's always somewhat of a weak point but if you want to keep it what have you got to lose?

                              Or you could get a banjo switch but at that point you are half way to a better master cylinder with an adjustable lever (i.e. the EX650 one)
