Wow-an all-encompassing code in California! Not mentioned here, as such. Our provincial codes usually defer to the overall federal code first and no deceleration lights or auto- flashing brakelights are mentioned...haven't looked for oscillating headlamps but I hope not.

I actually do flash my brakelights 3x when I think it's important to a warning to following drivers. IE-Deer, logs across the road, stumbling drunks on a narrow shoulder...doing it automatically is a distraction and removes an option for a "special communication"..for me anyways.

On a motorcycle, I would certainly recommend decoupling brake flashing from having to modulate your brakes (i.e. the manual flash). i would hate to inadvertently lockup a front wheel becuase you are trying alert a driver behind.

On the car/van I'm still debating. i just do not see any flashing 3rd brake lights around here in Az.

I use manual modulation and its true if this was adopted as a standard it would nullify the sense of alarm it brings.
No brake checking but I modulate thrice for tailgaters and for brake worthy issues coming into view.

It is amazing how many people drive only looking about 50 feet or less in front of them.
They say youre not supposed to drive in your mirrors but its part of my constant scan.

I just ordered the red and white versions of these for the VAN directions/brake lights.

Picked these for 3rd light. They don't have the projector but this is a smaller T15 bulb and there are two in the 3rd brake light.

I have only noticed them on newer, higher-end cars. Hard to tell the years anymore, but probably 2019 and 2020 cars, probably not older than that. For brands, I have noticed Lexus, Subaru, Audi and BMW, but I'm sure there are more.

                    EDIT Feb 21, 2020

I bought these lights for my 1997 Ford E-350 van. I replaced:
                    • the two front blinker/marker light (3157) (Amber)
                    • the two rear blinker/marker light (3157) (RED)
                    • the two rear backup lights (3156) (White)

I bought a pair each of RED,Amber, White

They are definitely brighter than stock incandescent lights. The only anomaly is that when the blinker is on on one side the other side glows slightly. You can only see this in the day as your lights will mask it, and for daytime, the amount of light emitted from the opposite side is very small to probably be unnoticeable. This may be a function of the flasher module. I just don't know i have not tried to diagnose it.

Will report back on longevity, but they look like quality lights and only about $8 per bulb.

The nice thing about these build is the same bulb will fit into an single (3156) or dual filament (3157) socket.

The main thing to look for in a 1156/1157 bulb is the projector lense on the end. That really increase the light when viewed head on.

Well damn, seems like my super led Cree 1157 bulb took a crap on me. Time for a new one.

You might be able to desolder it and see if it had some cold solder joints.

I converted a LED recently from 1157 to 3157 style recently.

I bought these for my '95 GSXR, 2 years ago. 1157 style, they work VERY good over stock. Very bright, even during a sunny day. I have integrated turn signals/brake lights, so my signals flash fast. I don't find it to be a problem though, and have had people behind me tell me they can see them, and tell where I'm turning...

The physics of the matter is that projector lense. It really focuses teh light which then generates a diffuse pattern through the lense. They are many option much cheaper than $15 per bulb.
I think i posted a link closer to $4 per.

Well, it was 2 years ago, and I tend to try not to buy the cheapest of anything. Rather shoot for the middle of the price range when I can. I bought the cheapest LED headlight bulbs I could find on amazon last year, and I need to replace them already. Typing this, just reminded me of that fact, as I forgot about them until just now, lol...

                              Edit : Just ordered these...

The bigger factor is the improvement in the projectro design. In 2016 I bought a whole bunch of LEDs at various sizes and did a video posted here. None of them came close to incandescent.
