    Multiple issues or one?

Hello all, I have an 82 GS650 sitting here. It was running great and then started having a charging issue. While trying to figure out the charging issue is quit getting fire as well. Now it wont run to even check anything with the charging. Is this something anyone else has had happen? I am not sure where to start looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Was a great running bike and would like to keep it that way if i can get it back to running again...

    Thank you

Welcome to the site. The experts will chime in any minute.

In the meantime, why not create a signature with your year and model in it? You did good identifying it immediately, but this way you won't have to keep repeating yourself.

First things first, check your basics! Are your fuses good? Having a multimeter is good, a fuse might look good but not check out well on a meter. Next would be looking over connectors on the wiring harness, pull them apart and look for corrosion and burnt wiring. Mice often chew up wiring if they nest in your bike over the winter, if you find a nest look things over real good.

        What was the charging issue?
Sparks are highly dependent on the health of the charging system.
Can you measure the battery voltage or at least charge it up.

How long have you had the bike?

When did it last run well?

          How many miles on it?

Has any routine maintenance been done by YOU? (you can't trust what a seller might have told you)

How did you conclude "charging problems"...?
Did you measured battery volts at idle and at 4000 rpm?

What is battery volts now that you say will not start?
            Have battery on a charger?
