Removing the oil pan after 43 years.

    IMG_1016.jpg
As far as I can tell this oil pan on my 1980 GS550e has never been off sense new and it shows. The big piece toward the top of the pic is a piece of gasket and no metal bits were picked up by my magnet. I couldn't control what happened to this bike for the last 43 years but I can control everything moving forward.

Good job cleaning that up. Did you buy an OEM gasket?

If you decide to use a torque wrench on the screws, apply your best judgement to the feel as well as the torque wrenches feedback. Old threads sometimes pull before the wrench says the screw is tight.

I Always buy OEM when possible and Yes, I used a torque wrench on the bolts. I know that the galley ways in the pan where put there for a good reason and they worked well.
