Mechanic in Massachusetts

Hey Ya'll,

I just acquired an 82 GS650g and will be looking for a nearby mechanic that can service it when the time comes. Does anyone on here know of any dependable suzuki mechanics in the area?

Have you thought, Learn to do it yourself, It's not really complicated. You should be no different than any of us the first time we serviced ours. The satisfaction of learning & doing it yourself is worth more than the money you save. One of the most critical things is learning not to twist off or strip the threads on those very small oil filter cover and valve cover bolts... The manual spells it out real good, and if something comes up, just ask, folks here glad to give advice.

Oh yea, oil changes, carb cleans, even stator replacement should be cinch on my own. I was asking more for tire changes and fork oil swapping. I should learn to do the forks, but I was hoping to have a shop do it the first time so I can get some riding in before I rip the bike apart lmao. I certainly plan to utilize the folks on here for many a garage wrenching projects!

Friend of mine (that’s a generous term, actually sister-in-law’s BF who was at my house for MD picnic yesterday) needed his fork seals done on an 80’s Honda. I told him numerous times to just do it himself. Couldn’t be much different than my GS. Find a manual. Watch some videos. Take your time. Do it right. Even offered to help him. He got some shop to do it. Paid them a lot of money. They tossed the spring clips that hold the seals in place. Didn’t think they needed to be there I just shook my head. YMMV.

Checking valve clearances should be high on your to-do list….they get smaller as miles go by and lots of these critters have seen poor maintenance as they get passed around. Make sure you get the correct valve cover gasket.
I’d find a place to do the tires for now…..its not hard, only takes a few tools and some struggling!
Fork oil replace is easy .
Folks on here are very helpful….but they do like pics to stimulate their senses.
Finding a reliable mechanic will be harder than learning to do it yourself.
