    Throttle seems hard to twist

'81 GS850G--with throttle cable removed from carbs it seems fine. Pretty sure it's routed correctly. Return spring seems normal--??

    Cable worn?
They get grooves worn inside the outer cable, the wire goes into the groove under tension and gets stuck. It will slide smoothly with nothing attached to the other end. Maybe reinstall the cable, get it in with the other side of the cable housing up, maybe the wire won't go into the groove.
But it's time for a new cable.

get a cable lubricating tool use white lithium spray grease to free up the friction between the cable and sheath. your cable life will quadruple.

clean and lube the H bar and twist grip

then do your clutch cable and choke cable
