    oil consumption

Last week, from Sunday to Sunday, I rode a total of 950 miles. In the last 500 miles, this last weekend I used about 8 ounces of oil. Is ths normal? I have recently installed ( at the last oil change 1100 miles ago)the Oil seperater screens in the valve cover, as I discovered they were missing. Thanks for your opinions.

So about a quart in 2,000 miles? Not good, not bad. Some old engines burn none, some new engines burn more than that. What's the history of the engine? Been maintained much? Rebuilt? if so how was it broken in?
Ridden like a little old lady or thrashed on? 1,000 miles on it or 100,000? More?

I really don't know it's maintance history. I bought it from the 4th owner at 30k and now has 35k. The compression is between 135-140psi on all cylinders. I was spitting out oil throught the air box, but that has stopped since I installed seperator screens.

The compression is reasonable so maybe the valve stem seals are leaking some. Most likely that along with some ring wear.

Thanks for your comments. I just needed hear someones opinon weither this is normal. There isn't any visable signs or smell of oil in the exhaust. I plan on just doing the maintance and riding at this point.
