Grips...

Can anyone advise on the best way to install bar grips?What to use for glue?
Is there a particular method to attach the grip to the throttle housing?

I use rubber cement of the type used for repairing bicycle inner tubes.... Just spread a load of it about & shove them on... leave to dry.

They make grip glue or hair spray will also work. Spray it on the bar, slide grip on while hair spray is still wet, let it dry. I've installed several sets of grips without glue and have had no problem with the grips slipping.

Hairspray is good but with one caveat... if it gets wet again (i.e. at any stage water goes under the grip) it will release it & the hairspray residue becomes slippy again....

I used to use hairspray on all my mountain bike grips (until ODI came out with the clamp on type).

One of my friends had the aforementioned problem doing about 45mph down the side of the French alps... I was following him & suddenly his arms shot up in the air with grips in his hands. What happened next wasn't pretty.

Grip glue is basically expensive rubber cement of the type used to attach patches....

Grip glue is cheap as. Only $5 something from Z1.

I've used both weatherstrip cement (rubber cement) and golf grip double stick tape. If you use the tape, you need to wet it down with mineral spirits first to allow the grip to slide down. Both methods work nicely but I prefer the tape.

I've never had a problem with the hair spray, and I ride in crappy weather a lot.

Perhaps there are different types of hair spray. I'm careful to get the cheapest, nastiest, stiffest hair spray I can find. The stuff a girl can use to build a three foot beehive, and costs less than a buck for a large can. However, you do need to have grips that fit tightly.

If I'm re-using old grips or they don't fit quite as tightly, weather strip cement works well.

With all the above, a shot of compressed air under the grip will help dry the adhesive quickly.

Wow, I didn't even know there was "grip glue"

I spray a bit of WD40 inside the grip and thump it on.
It's the same to get it off again.

How damn hard are you guys holding on?
Maybe lighter throttle springs are your answer?

I've used hairspray on bicycle and snowmobile grips. The bonus is the leftover hairspray make a great propellent in spud guns

I use whatever spray paint I have on hand. One shot in each grip, slide them on. Never had a grip come off on any BMX, Mountain, or motor cycle I have ever owned.

Mind you, it can be a real bugger to get the grip off again.

I always use hairspray, never had any problems, been using the hairspray for 30+ years. Your wife won't even know you borrowed it, unless you do like Hornswaggle.

That's excellent! I never did the spud guns, I always used tennis balls
