Hi,
That was one of the very first repairs I did to my bike when I got it. It's a piece of cake.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

Good that you said seals, plural. Some folks dont notice that there are two.
Depending on type of leak may only need to replace one. But while you are at it, might as well replace both so dont need to figure out which, and then both good for years and years.
Some of the part suppliers with the lowest prices also charge shipping based on total dollar value, and have a minumum shipping charge of like $12 or $14. Some other places, those with more detailed website and probably more robust parts database that includes weight of the parts, charge shipping based on weight, and the shipping for two little seals like that might be, say, $7.95

Yeah, shipping killed me. I ordered 2 of the flat seals and one of the internal ones. Shipping was over $8. Rediculous.
I don't think the external flat seal was bad since it wasn't leaking around the outside of the housing. I tried putting joint pipe joint compound on the thread of the cable, but the oil just went up inside the cable and then leaked back down forming a drip under the thumb screw. Didn't leak around the threads though, fyi. While I have the housing off, I went ahead and shined it up real purdy.Current Bikes:
