My clutch cabel just broke

The clutch cable pulled out of the clutch handle, the end of the cable is missing. I'm at work, I have no one available with a truck to take the bike home. So, I'm going to have to ride it. I don't get done until 2330 so I have a while to try to make something work. I'm at a hospital, so maybe I can find something around here to make a quick repair until I get home. What is the simplest way to secure the end of the cable until I can get home?

only a suggustion but if the nipple has broken off at the lever end, can you pull out the remaining steel cable from the outer sleeve and thread through some strong string or twine and tie it on both ends. use the clutch sparely and put some more string in your pocket incase it snaps. should get you home hopefully

A pair of locking pliers (Vise Grips) will get you home, if you have access to one.

Plenty of time to find, borrow or steal a Vicegrip- clamp it on cable end and experience a new sensation! Saved me a few times on my dirt bike when my lever failed to survive earth contact! By the way, don't shift too much.

drive right,shift into neutral push it to get going at the stops, i have doen it ,a couple times on my kz,use 2nd and coast in neutral
just to get home shouldnt be a big deal,uless your in high traffic, then maybe wait till traffic slows

I have had to ride with a snapped clutch cable MANY times over the years. push it while seated and get it going a couple mph is all you need and toe into 1st. While the revs are at idle, of course.. once in gear just roll on the gas and go. Toe to neutral before you have to stop. You can make all your shifts by closing throttle and up shifting as before. Down shifting too. You can do it.

Just got back to a computer, got home with a minimum of troubles. Got a new cable, installed it, adjusted it and I'm riding again. Maybe I'll keep a spare around in case this happens again in the next thirty years!

I keep a spare around, usually in my tank bag. What happened to your cable is typical. The strands of the inner cable are secured in the ferulle or barrel that slips into the clutch handle. The strands begin to break, usually one by one to start. If you lube the cable periodically, which requires you to remove the barrel from the handle, you can inspect it at that time. Once you see the first strand break, it is time to replace it so you don't get stranded again. Glad you are back on the road.
