Indeed, it's the only way to post. Dererent typo fixed to deterrent, my apologies. Point stands that WD-40, as said by Nessism, is the wrong product to use. And again, my apologies if I think it's a bit moronic to think that it is.

Yes, When I had the swingarm powder coated I greased the swing bearings for sure, I actually never had the shock completely off.

The spring could be sitting over to one side in the cup & touching on the plastic insert inside......
Could also be the pivots on the shock assembly either top or bottom.1980 GS1000G - Sold

I know this is an old thread. I searched for "squeak" and lo an behold, I find that what I have is common it seems. I'll be pulling the rear apart this coming weekend to grease everything that moves. Well that was a chore! I pulled the swing arm, shock, and linkage. Cleaned all of the bearings really well, and greased them. They were all dry, and some were a bit gritty. The swing arm bearings were the worst offenders. I could make them squeak by sticking a finger inside the bearing to turn them while cleaning. By the time I was done with the bearings, they were moving smooth and quiet. Put it back together, torquing everything to spec. No more squeaks!
