    GS1000 model/year ident

Picked up this (80?) GS1000 the other day for an outstanding $200 cash, makes for a pretty good winter project. The problem is, I am having some conflicts about the identification of the thing. I can't trust the title information at all considering it's from Id and they can "adjust" the information.
    VIN GS10000106805 (Stamped on fork)
    Engine # GS1000-122539
Exhaust is the standard oem stamped (x)gs1000(x)

The issue I am having with the title is it says it's an 81' GS1000, with no additional information
Now, i have a hard time believing it's an 81 considering the lack of CV type carbs and spoke wheels + the speedo going past 80mph. My belief if that it's actually a late 79 model because of the lack of a 17digit vin.
Any other key information you need, let me know!

I think you are correct. Bike looks like a 1979 GS1000N. Does the title reference the correct VIN?

I would call that a 1979 GS1000N with the N being a 1979 spoke wheel model. There was no chain drive GS1000 after 1980.

That's the kicker, dmv over there doesn't keep information like the vin for motorcycles 10years old. All the **** says is "exempt" I scoured over it multiple times even going to their DMV for maybe a better record.
Thanks for the replies, helps a ton!

Check to see if there is a metal tag on the steering neck (on opposite side of were VIN number is stamped), should have date of manufacture and other info. Sometimes these are removed, and sometimes cant read it from the cables having rubbed on it.
