    Loose mirror pivots

The left mirror on the Wes Cooley wont stay positioned..its loose and wont stay where i set it at. The question is how would i go about tightening it to stay set?

The mirror itself or the stem? I've had mirrors that had a little set screw that tightened the mirror itself. Maybe some locktite?

The mirror slowly wiggles its way down and wont stay where i set it to see behind me..the right one stay put where i set it.. I havent taken the mirror off the fairing yet. I will do that right now..The entire housing is loose on the stem i should clarify that point.

It looks like the plastic beauty ring holds the galss in the housing and its glued on to the mirror housing. If i can get the beauty ribg off without damage and get to the inside i suspect theres a screw that can be tightened to rest the adjustment pressure on the stem..any ideas as to how to get the adhesive to give up the ghost??

How about putting them in cold water and SLOWLY heating it up..think that would soften the glue or cause the glass to break??

Chuck, I don't see how you can tighten it other than taking the glass off, which would likely break the glass or something in the process.

can you position the mirror correctly, remove the complete mirror without disturbing it, turn it upside down and wick some anerobic sealer along where the ball meets the mirror housing? I used it to reinstall the idle jet in our Honda mower when the oring was damaged taking it out. it's still holding after 6 or 7 years and might work well enough for you.

P.S. it was a brass jet into a 'plastic' carb body or or was it vise-versa?

Only way i see to get glass out is to remove the beauty ring from the front of the housing body.Thats should let the glass come out. Yes i could super glue it or something once i get it hwere i want it but then if i hit it it wont give either. i like it to give if hit so it just doesnt break the whole plastic housing or glass.

The "S" mirrors I had previously did the same thing. I was able to work the plastic ring off and adjust the tension with the nut and spring inside and get them back together with no damage. That plastic ring does come off, maybe try and start in the middle of one of the straight sections either top or bottom. Actually try the bottom in case it gets marked up a bit, you're less likely to notice it there.

So it is snap fitted? I would have thought it was glued so i never even wanted to try to pry it off..Hmm. I just love this forum. Did you have to glue your back on or what?

Nope, the ring just snapped out in one piece and snapped back in.

Sandy..It went exactly as you said. I cleaned all the screw and spring in there and i added a touch of loctite to keep the screw from loosening up again. I am gonna do the other one too just to be sure it doesnt loosen eventually too. Finally something with this bike went according to planned!

                            Congratulations on another success story.

                            A small note for future

                            IF the glass breaks....

Almost any automotive glass repair shop can help.

They will not have the factory convex surface, but they can supply a flat glass mirror, cut and trimmed exactly to shape.

The image you see will NOT be closer than it appears

I have had to do this a couple of times. Speedy Auto Glass shop in Toronto did it for a very small price, and glued the new mirror in place, as well
