    '81 GS550L oil change

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and have a quick question about an oil change. Does anyone know exactly how many quarts of oil that are needed when changing the oil and filter on my '81 GS550L? I haven't got my Clymer's manual yet, but should have it within the next week. Just anxious to get out and ride since temps have been in the mid-60's here.

    Any input is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

The 2400ml (about 2.5 qts.) capacity should be stamped onto the case, but does not include the filter IIRC. About 3 qts. total, maybe just a little bit more than that.

Just fill it to the top of the sight glass (on center stand), run it for a minute, let the head drain for 3 minutes, and re-check the sight glass.

BassCliff has a nice picture tutorial on his BikeCliff web site. Your GS550's quantity will be a little lower but the principle is just the same.

          True that, Ed.

All sorts of great information on the BikeCliff site. Make an intro post in the GS Owner's forum and BC himself will drop all sorts of new member information on you.
