    Valve adjusting tool

Is this valve adjusting tool, which is currently being offered on Ebay, a good product which really works?

If not, what is a proven alternative?

Sure, loads of people use the tool... I just use the ziptie method.

          Hi,

Be warned, it takes some practice to use this tool properly. But I use it all the time, just this past weekend as a matter of fact. I have never used the "zip tie method" because I'm too lazy to take all the plugs out of my engine when checking the valves.

The trick is to keep the curved part of the tool pressed tightly up against the cam as you are rotating it down around the cam and on top of the edge of the bucket. It's sort of an "up, in, and down" motion as you insert the tool.

And there's no need to pay that exorbitant Ebay price for the tool. It's amazing how many times I've seen Ebay sellers hawking stuff for more money than Suzuki or MotionPro asks for their products.

EDIT: Oh, I see. That's a "GeorgeFix" page. No wonder.

          Thank you for your indulgence,

            Thank for the replies, guys.
I have been adjusting VW diesel and gas engine mechanical valves for (gulp!) decades and am pretty familiar with the concept. Just need a tool.

I just ordered this tool from the Ebay seller for $20.00 (freight included).
Why? Because the above mentioned alternatives actually end up costing more with freight. Would have gone with Dennis Kirk, but I don't need anything else from them right now. Just received an order.....doh!

if you didnt need anything else it might be a few cents less than Z1 with shipping but they are a much more trusted seller around here than ebay guy. You will probably be fine, and that tool should do what you want.

                    Hi,

Free shipping from GeorgeFix? Well, it's hard to mess up a tappet tool. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Yes, you have to figure those pesky shipping charges into the total cost. It's tough when you need onesy-twosy stuff. I try to keep a running list of little things that I need so that I can order them all at once and save shipping charges.

Good luck with your valve adjustments. Keep us informed.

I bought my MotionsPro tool from my son's Mac Tools guy for around $18. A bit more expensive than some of the US stores, but shipping to Canada can be expensive.

Received me tool today (4 days....pretty fast!). Man....am I ever naive....this tool is so SMALL..I thought it would be about the size of my VW tool (4 times larger). Guess I never really thought about it. I can put some dental floss across the gap and clean me teeth!

                              Hi,

It's not the size of the tool that matters. It's how you use it.

Once you get under the valve cover you'll find it's a nice fit.

                              Thank you for your indulgence,
