I have a question for anyone that owns a 79 gs850

i was wondering if anyone who has owned a 79 gs850 has replaced the rear disc brake because im trying to do that right now by buying a used one online. the only thing is.... i dont know what truly fits and what doesnt... so any info on that would be amazing. thanks!

The 750, 850 and 1000 from that year, were all the same.
I replaced the rear one on my '79 750 with one off of an '81 850.
(I just wanted the factory drilled disc's)
So, probably a bunch of years/models are the same.

just the disc? 59210-18402 is the part number. There is a guy here that has an interchange database application. I will try to find him and give you his name so you can PM him.

The thickness of the disc and the off-set on the rear is different from the front disc's.
The front ones are labeled Min. Thk. 4.5mm (right and left with the slots) and the rear is Min. Thk. 6mm.
The inside pattern, is also different as can be seen here:
(the top one, is for the rear)



The '78-'79 front rotors are interchangeable. I have a couple of rear ones that I could sell for $15 each plus shipping.

Yep, you got to watch out for them pesky know-it-all computers. Superseded part numbers can be tricky when doing cross-references. It works better using the original part numbers. Alpha-sports is notorious for the highest prices on the net. I'll bet cyclepartsnation.com, partshark.com, and gssuzuki.com have better prices, but still kind of steep.

I have the zedder software but it's at work and I actual get both sat/sun off. First time since Christmas. Therefore, I won't have access to it until Monday.

You should checkout www.cheapcycleparts.com. I think they have very good prices. They have OEM Parts too.
