Snapped Clutch Cable?
So I was re-routing the clutch cable as I installed new drag bars and while trying to actuate the clutch cable by hand I heard a pop/snap sound. The clutch cable seems to still be pulling on something, so not completely convinced the cable is snapped. But now the clutch cable, where it enters the transmission housing, moves around very freely (see video).
Any idea on what my problem may be?

Have you already taken off the cover and verified the cable is still sitting on the slot correctly?Cowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

Not yet, almost stripped the screws trying to take the cover off. Will get a more proper fitting screwdriver and take it off then. I guess ill update you guys then...
Was hoping there'd be a simple explanation haha

Regardless, all of my hassle began as I was trying to reroute the clutch cable. At this point, I think I'll just buy new cables.
Been searching around but found nothing specific to the GS550.
After looking around Z1 and giving their tech guys a call, I think I'll be using the throttle cables from a GS750/1000 (apparently its a little shorter). Stock is Motion Pro, MP04-0012, shorter one is MP04-0136. Thoughts?
Couldn't find any application for the clutch (Stock is Motion Pro MP04-0010). Would it be safe to assume I could use the clutch cables off the GS750 too?
Thanks

Since you're installing shorter cables, and you've been advised of GS 1000 throttle cables, go with 79 GS 1000S cables. The S bike came with lower bars stock, 58300-45601 $26
I don't know if your clutch cable is the same as on a 550M, again another bike with shorter cables.
Edit - looked it up
Clutch -58200-47700 - $15
Those are dealer prices, go order them locally and have them in a few days. Much better quality than Motion ProLast edited by Big T; 05-12-2011, 07:26 PM.1978 GS 1000 (since new)

The 1000S clutch cable won't fit on a 550 due to the way it attaches.. For shorter 550 cables, the 1982 550M cables are a good choice.Ed

He'll have to mix and match, the 550M clutch cable will work, but the 550M has CV carbs, and his 78 550 has VMs, so he'll need a VM throttle cable (like the 1000S)1978 GS 1000 (since new)

Talk about great help. Honestly, I'm glad I bought a GS for my project bike rather than the KZs I was considering JUST because of this forum.
Thanks guys! Will keep you updated

If so, then pull the cable out of the lever, reinstall lower end, keep tension on cable and reinstall at the lever1978 GS 1000 (since new)
