The hose is the breather line I bet. It is a vent line out of the top of the valve cover. Stock it would hook up to the air box, however with pods, you should have a breather filter atached to the end of the hose.

    Something like this:

    Yup, VM carbs.

Where do I get the list that all must do to their GS?

I feel like the gas tank wasn't the prettiest kinda brownish. I have to check to be sure. But.. I guess I'm gullible it ran great looked great and fired right up. He said it had been serviced and taken care of since it sat a bit. Whats the worst case scenario i'm looking at?

If its been running well So it still has life right?

I'll take pix of carbs and petcock. I hope its just debris. I kinda agree w/ a carb issue. I'm here looking for answers but I feel like the engine wants to go just needs gas in the carbs. I dunno.

Anyway thanks i'll be in touch. We're bringing this thing to life one way or another.

Check out basscliff's website for all your maintenance needs.

110x stands for an 1100 series bike. The heart of your beast is a 1000 however judging by the head. Should be some numbers stamped into the aluminum above the clutch cover. That'll tell you what engine your working with.

Okay, we're talking about VM 26SS carbs here

Get a small container, a big screwdriver and drain #1 and #4 into the container. Is it clear, or full of gunk?

If your tank is brownish inside, it could be rusty or an old Kreem liner. Another picture please

What I'm getting at is a rusty gas tank sifting particles down into the carbs and clogging the jets and such

And, what about the alleged "rebuild" of the carbs?

That hose is from the breather at the top of the motor

I take it you didn't get a "megawelcome"?

It looks like your petcock handle is missing as well. Don't let your tank get too low. Nice bike though, definitely worth your time and effort.

The 1980 petcocks did not have a handle and it looks like both of your bowl vent lines have been blocked off. Run two new hoses up and end them under the seat with the ends left open.

              Good catch!

Pull the bolt out of the short hoses between 1-2 and 3-4, those are vents!

BTW your petcock is in the prime position. The screwdriver slot should be horizontal for the run position. In run there is no fuel flow when the bike is not running.

So weekend is here. I'm going to be getting to work tomorrow.

I was looking at the maintenance tips on http://members.dslextreme.com/users/..._Greeting.html

I will check boots, get a new petcock, put an air filter on the breather hose. The plug wires may be good. They look newer. I'll check plugs. I didn't drain the carbs yet. I'll review all the advice from everyone -Thanks all!

I clicked the link below and its broken NO PDF
                  Or for VM carbs: http://www.thegsresources.com/files/vm_carb_rebuild.pdf

Anyone have a copy of this? Any other guides? I'd like to have a look a what I'm in for.
