So I bought a GS450E out of a tow yard for $35 this past winter, and am working on getting it streetable and good again. It starts and runs now with the choke on, and it will idle, but as soon as you go to give it gas it just bogs immediately and dies. It'll run with choke on... but yeah, it's definitely got something up.
Any ideas on that? I took the carbs apart and cleaned them, it's stock exhaust and all that... brand new clean gasoline from an auxilary tank for testing... air filter cleaned and oiled... I couldn't find an A/F mixture screw so I didn't get to tool with the mixture at all. I guess the pilots could be a little imperfect still?
Other issues:
1- Ignition is screwy. Sometimes it turns off, sometimes it stays on. Considering replacing the main fuse with a 20amp breaker and just using that to turn it off from now on. Also doubles as an anti-theft device, since $35 bikes are in high demand!
2- Gas tank lid was beyond impossible to open. The key hole was full of bird poop, it was rusted shut... etc etc etc. Drilled it out and it opened the lid.. except now I have a lid that won't stay in place anymore. Any ideas for a lid on the bike? Maybe just something temporary? No one would steal gas from this damn thing...
I suppose outside of the gas tank and the carboration, it's ready to hit the road. Kind of cool to see this bike alive again. I got a pretty good used tire for the rear, and just need to dig up a semi-legitimate for the front, and I'll have a fun little cruiser!
