    850GL Choke

I have a 1982 GS850GL I bought a week ago. In the process of getting a few things fixed and or replaced. A part I'm gonna need is lever for the choke cable. The cable is intact and seems to function well. It's just no longer attached to the handle bars. I'm not sure if I can buy just the Choke lever or do I need to just replace the whole thing. Any help would be appreciated. I'm a first time bike owner and I'm not sure where to start with most repairs.

Here's the link to my first thread. A little about me and how I got this bike just in case you want pics and a back story. If you look close in one of the pics you can see the cable just kinda hanging out.

    Thank you!

    Sincerely,
    Nick Smith

Does your hand control have the boss on the bottom that you can bolt the lever on too? If so, I should have a lever.

Thanks so much for the quick response guys. Nessism. I believe it does. I'm not sure what a "Boss" is, lol, but When looking at it, it looks as if there is a little screw hole at the bottom for an attachment. I figured thats where the lever used to be. I dont have the bike right now to double check, it's getting some replacement parts put on, I should have it back in a couple of days, hopefully before the weekend.

SQDancer, Thank you, I wasn't even sure what part name to try and look up. Everything for choke brings up a complete assembly. Although I'm not entirely opposed to just replacing the whole thing. Not expensive at all from what I can see.

You need parts 21-24 on the left hand control fiche. Total is like $15 + s/h at gssuzuki.com. Or you can post in "parts wanted", I'm sure somebody has some extras laying around.

Okay, so Mike is doling out a very basic lesson all GS owners should heed: if you need parts please go to one of the numerous on-line Suzuki factory parts fishe systems and see if you can still get the parts straight from the source. A simple google search on "suzuki motorcycle parts" is all it takes to find numerous sources, or check the archives here for the same info.

I do have those parts, but you may as well just order new considering the cost.

It's amazing what is still available new for these 30-year old bikes.

Congratulations on your find, but be aware that Bike Bandit tends to be the second most expensive supplier that we know of. Look at the list on BassCliff's welcome page, he has commentaries on many of them.

The G&S Suzuki that mike_of_bbg mentioned is among the better ones, but they all tend to be cheaper at one thing or another, so it pays to do some comparison shopping among them all.

One more thing about Bike Bandit: they are the only one of the suppliers that uses their own parts numbering system. Everyone else uses Suzuki OEM numbers.
