    Moving Shims Around

Anyone have any good ideas about how to get my 3 shims that need to be swapped out to the dealer for the trade? I cant think of how to get them all out at once without damaging the buckets by turning the cam without a shim in there... any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

See if the dealer will let you have the three shims after putting down a deposit, which would be returned when you bring him your three 'old' shims.

May I also invite you to take advantage of the offer in my sig?

Yeah, I guess I'll have to do something like that. I was wondering if I could somehow keep the valves open far enough to turn the cams without hitting the edge of the buckets.

I'm pretty sure I've got the shim sizes/destinations fairly sorted out, Steve, but I'll email you for the spreadsheet to see what so many other users have used.

One more thing, what is the consensus of going 2 sizes smaller if the bucket wont spin (i.e. zero clearance)? Ideally, this would at worst bring the clearance to .10" which I've read would be better than being a bit too tight.

      Thanks for the help.

If you could hold it open far enough to not grind the lobes' corners off on the bucket, you'd probably collide with the piston. Be patient. After buying some, you'll always have some to swap around.

Just thought i'd let any searchers know that I wound up using $1 coins in the shim buckets. They're just barely big enough to keep the cam lobe off the bucket rims.

...and soft enough to not hurt the cam. Congratulations on finding a use for the dollar coins.
