    1979 GS1000 seats interchangeable?

I was wondering if anyone knows if a 1979 GS1000 E or 1000S seat itself and/ or a seat cover would fit a GS1000L. I'd like to replace the stepped seat with something more straight across.

No. Completely different frames and mounting systems. Have your seat custom made by an upholstery shop for about $100 or less.

Take an electirc knife and trim the seat foam to how you want it and any good shop can make you a cover to fit the new contour.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Wouldn't be surprised that if, like the gs750l and the gs750e, the 1000l shares frames with its brother the main difference being in its front forks, tank, seat ,side covers and rear mudguard. As I did with my 79 750L simple part number comparison will tell.
The two models of 750 share triple clamps which is logical, the L being a limited edition of an existing model rather than a completely new model.
Looking at changing the seat on mine,a bit more foam on the front for my boney arse and removal of the tacky buttons and shaving the humpplus a new cover seems the easiest option
