What is the best way to trace an oil leak?
So, I'm fairly new at all of this, but I like to think that I am fairly competent. The one problem that I now find myself dealing with, where that I'm not entirely sure where to begin, is how to deal with an oil leak. Any advice and input is appreciated.Tags: None

like was said..degrease and dry. spray it on and run the engine about 5 or 10 miutes then start looking for the wet spots. Someone had posted some pics here once of their base gasket with the spray technique.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

There is also a flourescent dye that you can add to the oil. The dye comes in a small kit with some special light filtering glasses and a small red-light flashlight. Its sold at most automotive parts stores. I had an annoying oil leak on my car that I just couldn't locate. Put the dye in and it led me right to the source. Was happy that I finally found the source of the leak but unhappy at where it was located - had to take what seemed like a quarter of the engine apart over a weekend to fix it!
