Petcock issues.
So I thought I had a 1980 gs750lt but I think it's an lx. Got a new petcock, one with the fuel line and vacuum lines pointing left towards the front of the bike and it doesn't fit. should have measured the dang holes first. stupid mistake. anyways. so I have 44 mm holes instead of the 50. the lt's have 50mm holes. anways, are there any petcocks that size that shoot the lines to the left. I can't seem to find a good way to run the lines with the hoses pointing right. everything is pinched. I'm wondering if someone put an lx tank on an lt bike. What are the differences between these bikes besides my obvious petcock difference? Thanks!!Tags: None

The LT petcock is wider, and has the cross-bars in the rubber gasket that hold it in place. Yes, 50mm wide. It's the same as the E, L, TD, ET, TZ...
The LX petcock has a simple oval o-ring, no cross-bars. Yes... 44mm wide center-to-center.

Thanks for the information. Yeah I figured that out, but seriously where is the proper location to route the vacuum line and fuel hose. I managed to get it done, but there's no way to tip the tank up at all without disconnecting the lines. Just wondering if anyone knows. I would love to get a petcock that shoots the lines to the left. It would be much easier to work with. Pingel has one I could use, but talk about $$$
It really weird why they did an lt and and lx. I really can't find that many differences besides the petcock and decals.

The 1980-81 GS750E, 1100E and GS 750L, 1100L all have the same petcock, 50mm bolt holes. Problem with the E models is that the petcock sets right down on the top of the chrome air cleaner cover, no space for a proper lever petcock (such a stupid placement and petcock design). 2015 CAN AM RTS
Stuff I've done to my bike:dancing: 1100E front end with new Sonic springs, 1100E swing arm conversion with new Progressive shocks installed, 530 sprockets/chain conversion, new SS brake lines, new brake pads. New SS fasteners through out. Rebuilt carbs, new EBC clutch springs and horn installed. New paint. Motor runs strong.

Running longer lines also can lead to fuel issues - there is a certain sweetness when being short and direct.

The LT was made as a 1980 model, the LX was for 1981.
You say you have an '80 750L. When was it made? If it was made after about July or August of '80, it might be an '81, therefore, an LX.
The "T" is the official designation for 1980 models, the "X" is the official designation for the 1981 models.
Saying that you have an " '80 750LT" is redundant, as the '80 and the "T" say the same thing.

I'll have to check it out. I know the sticker on the neck of the frame has mostly peeled off. I'll have to see what information I can find. The title for it is still being processed. Minnesota is still way backed up with processing these things since we had that shutdown last summer. I would imagine that info might not be on there. Anyways. I'm guessing it's an 81 then unless someone switched the tanks before I owned it. It's a good possibility.
