Tachometer troubles
Hey guys. My tach started acting up the other day. When I was riding it would be a little twitchy and it would swing up and down in the general rpm range rather than it's usual steady(ish) pointing self. It stopped and I forgot about it it. Today it started making some weird noise sometimes while I was driving. It was kind of a whirring whining noise. Sometimes it would be going and I would go to shift and when I let go of the clutch it would stop making the noise. Sometimes it would stop when I shifted but before I let the clutch out. Sometimes it stopped by itself. Any thoughts?Tags: None

Hi,
It needs a new cable, cleaning, or both. Check the cable. Lube or replace if necessary. Spray your favorite lubricant (WD40, silicon contact cleaner, whatever) up in the cable hole of the gauge. Or take the gauge off, turn it upside down, and spray in the hole. Be careful not to spray so much that you mess up the gauge face. Sometimes the gauges have to be disassembled to clean properly.
There are literally thousands of posts on this subject. The search function will give you more than enough information.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

I had the same issue and the problem came from the cable drive that for some reason got disengaged from the tacho side?sigpicJohn Kat
