Rearbrake torque link GS750e 78

Today after I got my rearbrake to work (I bought the bike a week ago, and rode it for the first time today), I had this funny feeling everytime I used the rearbrake, like the wheel was pushed about 1" to the right, if I held in the clutch.

If I on the other hand braked while in gear I could feel nothing, it just braked.

I looked at it, and the torque link from the rearbrake to the swingarm can move about 1/4" front/back, can that be right ?

In the official partsmanual (I have one of those, got it for a 5$ to the coffebox) fig. 55, the part I am talking about is number 11.

Which part(s) are you missing?
Most of them are still available at your local Suzuki store.

I am not missing anything, I just asked if it could be right that it behaved like that, or if not, which part I should look at.

If someone put non-stock bolts in the ends, it most certainly would wallow out the ends and shift all over the place.
Pull it apart and inspect the wrong parts. Those are special high shoulder bolts on both ends.

The damage to the brake stay/torque arm is most likely severe and will require replacement or a good welding and boring to cure.
Replacement with a good used part(s) would probably cost much less than a repair.

I can do welding ok, and my supplyer is one of the biggest in Denmark, so I don't think that getting new parts will be a problem, but I wil keep your advice in mind.

I was lucky, bought the new bolts and nuts, neighter the torque link nor the struts it is mounted on in both the calliper and swingarm was damaged. After a prefit, I could move the link less than 1 mm ( .25 inch ), and that is without tightening anything more than with my fingers, so now I am a big step closer to get road worthy.

Another thing to check

I had a similar feeling when using the rear brake on my 1979 GS 1000, and I found that one of the pistons in the rear caliper was stuck. Might be worth checking.
