    bolts on flywheel loose

    1984 GS1100GK

I have a continuing problem. The three bolts holding the big starter gear to the flywheel come loose causing a loud clank when idling. I have used locktite on them. Three times in one year any help please Thanks

Sounds like you need a new starter clutch.

So you can get the rotor off easily? Did you use red loctite? When those bolts come loose, they bang around a lot. They thread into the rotor, and maybe those threads have been enlarged slightly from the banging. After the bolts have been loctited and the rotor/clutch has been mounted on the crank, the backs of those 3 bolts are accessible in the rotor. You may need to tack weld those bolt ends. Another possibility may be drilling and tapping fine-thread SAE bolts slightly larger than the existing 3 bolts, so you know the threads are tight.

thanks hadn't thought of retapping. Wasn't sure about the welding part but that is more perment than locktite. Will take off tomorrow when i get the flywheel puller again and take to the machine shop next door. Ride long and ride safe.
