Sounds like the way to go... b ut you dont need to take the wheels off to do brakes and caliper services.

Guess I need to look over the manual. Lol. But, do I need to remove the wheel to replace the chain and sprocket? I'm assuming so, just thought I'd ask.

Yes...you simply remove the 2 bolts that hold the caliper to the Y looking bracket and lift it up off the rotor. I then use a bungee and go over the seat to the shock or whatever to hold the caliper up. Then you loosen the axle nut, loosen the adjusters and swing them down and push the tire to the front of the bike untill you can jump the chain, then remove the 12 MM bolt that holds the swing arm ends in and remove them. Then pull the entire wheel and axle assembly out the back of the channels in the swingarm.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

NOTE:::: When your pushing the tire ahead to get some slack to jump the chain, be carefull not to push the bike off the center stand!! Wiggle it ahead easily and dont "shove" it ahead hard.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
