    stuck drain plug gasket..:(

    OK..I haven't done this in like almost 40 yrs Seems the gasket is on plug don't it?? I was given/have actually 2 new ones and would like to use it but can't remove old one!!! I tried slightly to get on the backside with a small flathead while tapping it..then a razorblade knife to try to get behind to pry..no luck. Hate to booger up the plug and then have to find and go buy a new one

    Vice it up and get a little more aggressive to see if you can get it to move. once you can get it away from the base a little bit, you can hold it with some pliers and use a wrench to basically unscrew it off the threads.

      PS....Do NOT use any heat..youll ruin the magnet in the center of the plug.

        so you would agree that the gasket IS indeed still on there? As everything else..my eyes are ****tin the bed with age

          they are just aluminum and can get squished on there pretty stubbornly...I would try all I can to be sure and satisfied its either there or thats just the way that one was machined..I dont have it , or another in front of me to tell for sure. I you treid the utility blade then most likely its not there. Have you looked to see if it is stuck to the oil pan?? By the way, the washer on a spark plug is the same thing as a drain plug just for future reference. Save a few plug washers just for backup sake.

              I recently had to remove one of these lovely washers. It was not aluminum, it was steel, and I did not get it off in one piece. Basically used a knife blade to get behind it and pry it up until I could grab it with pliers.

                I hate those gaskets, I don't try to remove them, I don't have any leaks. But if I did try to remove them (and I would be successful to the point of destroying them in the process if need be) I would be replacing those with these. I've used them in the past with great results, reusable and no leaky.

                    Just so you know, you can also get replacement plugs at your local auto parts store for just a couple of bucks.

                    If the oil pan threads are getting loose, you can get an oversize plug (cuts deeper threads) for the same couple of bucks.

                      cool, Thanks for the tip..though mine are in excellent shape...luckily! I got all my oils replaced today. Now just have to do the carbs and valves and all the pm will be done!
