Brake Caliper Re-build

I'm a newbie and I'm trying to source a Rear Brake Caliper re-build kit for my 1979 GS1000. Any suggestions?

Some forum members have gotten lucky with aftermarket rebuild kits, but most of us really encourage the purchase of OEM (that's Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts for something as critical as brake parts.

While you are at it, you may also want to consider getting rebuild kits for the front master cylinder and all the calipers.

Any idea if the rubber brake hoses have EVER been changed? Probably not.
Would you believe that Suzuki suggests changing them EVERY TWO YEARS?
Most of us replace them with braided stainless lines and eliminate that problem.

Steve is correct, if you have problems with one you can be sure the rest need attention also. Realizing you have brake problems after one locks up is no fun, and can be expensive on all accounts.

OEM is usually the way to go on a GS, aftermarket is good if you know what your after. Try this for OEM stuff.

Are the rear calipers the same on all 79' GS 1000's?

You may find your local dealer can get it for you - mine was about $45

Quick question about the parts fiches...

Agreed with the above responses about BS. You could try Z1Enterprises as well, but I'm pretty sure they only have the K&L rebuild kits so I would pass on those.

Since this spurred me into starting the rebuild (i.e. looking for the parts) I figured I'd just post here. What is the difference between Front Calipers (Model Z) and Front Capilers (Model X)? The parts look exactly the same on the actual scan, and the part numbers aren't off by a lot (if that even matters). Model X scan just looks newer.

I just don't want to get the wrong part, especially with the brakes

X is the 1981 model year and Z is the 1982 model year. The part numbers look the same to me, once you ignore the superceded ones.
