    Another Swingarm bearing install question

I'm trying to install the needle bearings in my swingarm and am running into a dilemma. After freezing them last night, I tried to press them in using an engine mount bolt, the swingarm end caps, and a nut. Although I can start to press the bearing in place this way, it's always starting in at an angle no matter how I hold it. I'm assuming this isn't right since every other bearing is supposed to go in straight

Does any one have advice how to do this without destroying the bearing?

So I finally got them started by beating on them with a rubber mallet. I was then able to press both in until about a 1/4" is still outside of the Swingarm before I ran out of thread on the engine mounting bolt. Looks like i need to find a rod with a longer thread section on it

now you have them in that far, finish off with your mallet and a block of wood. they are in nice and square now so you shouldn't damage them

Thanks Age; tried that and they didn't want to move that way. Wife will be home at 4 so maybe I'll head down to ace hardware and get some threaded rod, more washers and a nut

Do I want to make it red hot or just hot to the touch?

So I heated it up, tried the rubber mallet with no success, then broke out the claw hammer and knocked them close to flush. One bearing is good but the end of the other separated from the bearing in one spot. I think it will be okay especially since the end caps will hold it there.

plenty of grease and with the end caps on it should be fine...

If at first you don't succeed, get a BFH. Works almost all the time. Except for the occasions where it means ordering a replacement part.

                        Hydraulic press. Nice and controlled.

I'll admit, not the sort of thing found in most garages.
