    Inverted U section rubber grommets.

this may be in the wrong forum, if so i apologize.

i am after some U section rubber grommets or O rings but i cant seem to find any. i can find U section rubber strip but not ready made joint free rings.
i know they are out there but i cant find any, maybe i have the terminology wrong.
i dont want to glue a strip together to make the rings.

i need them to fit my bellmouths to protect the edges and secure the mesh filter.

    any ideas anyone?

If you can find the strip you can make your own rings. Rubber sticks really well with superglue - the cheap £1 a tube stuff. If you're careful the joint won't show - as it sticks so well you only get one go at it.

If you use superglue on rubber it will be stronger then the rubber. We use the trick quite a bit at work on a bit of kit that has a rough life. The rubber hoops (about 5mm thick) snap maybe once a day on average and are glued back and are instantly stronger - they never snap in the same place.

The guys use a no-brand superglue - the stuff that sticks your fingers together and kids end up in hospital with their mouths welded shut.

Give it a go on an odd scrap bit of rubber. Hold the joint for a few seconds firmly - count to 10 or something like that - and then try and snap it.

ok, so i couldn't get any "ready made" rings to i took your advice Wally and bought some rubber edging strip, cut to size and super glued together. seems to be quite strong so far so will see how it goes.
here is what they look like.......

Adrian...it looks as though the pods will hold it in place fine..the real issue was just getting them to stay put so you could get the filters on..am i thinking correctly here?

Look like a nice job by the way.

yes, they secure the mesh over the ends of the belmouths

There is no filter media in them...just straight air? How do you keep the carbs from sucking up debris???

thats what the mesh is for, stops stones and birds and small children getting sucked in, lol

i do run pods mainly for the road but these make so much more power

Thats what i was thinking...the sand and dust from the road swirling around the engine and getting sucked thru into the engine. May be small and insignificant though.
