Newbie question: Can I use this in my secondary and final drives?



I don't think there's a difference between "hypoid gear oil" and "gear oil", but I hate operating on assumptions alone.

If this isn't the right stuff, what do you use?

Quite true, but in this case, that oil is appropriate.

The clue is the GL-5 on the label.

From the Lubrizol website:

API Category GL-5 designates the type of service characteristic of gears, particularly hypoids in automotive axles under high-speed and/or low-speed, high-torque conditions. Lubricants qualified under U.S. Military specification MIL-L-2105D (formerly MIL-L-2015C), MIL-PRF-2105E and SAE J2360 satisfy the requirements of the API GL-5 service designation.

The Suzuki repair manual says GL-5, so I assumed it was good but not 100% so I figured I'd check with the experts. Thanks for the confirmation!

Yes.

I think you'll only find straight 90W in a marina nowadays.

The GL-5 designation means it has the additives and whatever slipperosity mojo is needed to work perfectly for the kind of gears found in a GS final drive.
